Committee

There are currently five members of the York JLD committee.

All committee members play active roles in organising events, arranging sponsorship and promoting the York JLD.

Laura Schofield

Laura qualified in 2012 and has recently moved to Ware & Kay Solicitors. She studied English Literature at Newcastle University, before completing the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at Northumbria University. Laura is the Chair of the York JLD committee.

Laura is responsible for the committee’s liaison with the Yorkshire Law Society (YLS), including representing the York JLD at quarterly YLS meetings. She is also the Honorary Treasurer of the YLS.

Nick Middleton

Nick studied a Politics degree at Leeds University followed by a Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in York.

Nick spent 5 years as a Paralegal in the family law team at Crombie Wilkinson, before undertaking a Training Contract with the firm. Nick qualified in February 2016 and is now based in the Commercial Property department. Nick is the York JLD’s Treasurer.

Ryan Bell

Ryan is a Contracts and Commercial Solicitor at City of York Council.
He studied Law at the University of Hull and subsequently completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in York. He completed a training contract with City of York Council in May 2015.

He is the committee’s National Representative and therefore attends national JLD committee meetings and events on behalf of the York JLD. He is also the committee’s liaison with the Yorkshire Law Society (YLS), including representing the York JLD at quarterly YLS meetings

Abbas Khan

Abbas is a Trainee Solicitor at Harrowells and qualifies in December 2017. He studied Law at the University of Sheffield and then the LPC Part-time at BPP University in Manchester.

Abbas joined the JLD Committee in July 2016 and is responsible for communications with York JLD Members

Chris Riley

Chris is a Trainee Solicitor at Harrowells and will qualify as an Employment Solicitor in April 2017. Chris studied Law at Northumbria University, along with a Masters and the Legal Practice Course.

Upon graduation Chris obtained experience in Leeds as a Paralegal before initially joining the employment team at Harrowells as a Paralegal in March 2014.
